Rose, 2021. Care

Care is the handiwork of Nacho Lazaro, one of Spain's most honored winemakers. He is noted for making organic and vegan wines that are stellar and our selection is certainly one of them.

Care is located in Carinena on the northeast coast where it is cooled by its closeness to the Mediterranean. The winery was founded in 2000 with the mission of showing the world what the Carinena appellation is capable of in the hands of winemakers like Lazaro. The vineyards are 2500 feet in elevation where the air is cool and the sun bright, both perfect conditions for wine grapes.

Our selection is an equal blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Tempranillo is unquestionably Spain's most endearing grape and responsible for many of its finest wines. It is a very adaptable grape and has done exceedingly well in other countries, especially Portugal, where it is called Tina Roriz and is one of the main components in Port.

While the Spanish claim Tempranillo as their own, there is some evidence that it was actually brought to Spain from Burgundy by Cistercean Monks in the 13th Century. It was mentioned in Spanish wine lore in the late 1500s. Regardless of its origins, it maintains a very high honor in the grape world.

One of its many qualities is that the grapes produce less sugar when ripe and thus less alcohol. This translates to a gracious offering with a splashy set of fruit features like melon, pear and cranberry. From fish to fowl or vegetarian it is sure to please at every level.
