Besides bringing great wines to our members, we love bringing new grapes and fascinating stories. Our Tibouren Rose has both. Tibouren is the name of the grape. It is claimed as being a French grape grown very successfully in Provence, as this selection demonstrates. However, it was introduced to France just 150 years ago by a sea captain named Antiboul. The grape became so popular that it was named after him and finally morphed into Tibouren. But, its roots go back 2,500 years to Liguria, Italy and possibly further, to Greece. No one knows for sure.

Our selection is crafted by one of the top co-ops in Provence. They have been growing this grape since it landed there and many of their vines are over 70 years old. The grapes for this selection averaged over 40 years. When a vine reaches that age, its vigor is transferred to the grapes, producing incredible flavors.

Tibouren is a very dark-skinned grape that produces a very rich and robust wine. When made into a blush and blended with 15% Grenache rose, it becomes this lovely, multi-faceted wine, sporting myriad aromas and flavors.

From the moment you grasp the orange blossom, cherry and spice aromas in the glass you are taken aback. Fortunately, those impressions are solidified on the palate with equal enthusiasm. It all comes together in a glorious finish and would leave quite an impression when matched with orange chicken or ginger-infused scallops.
