Marco Bonfante opened the winery in 2000 with his sister, Micaela, after the passing of their father. The history of the family goes back nearly 200 years in the Piedmont region of Monferrato, one of the most important appellations in Piedmont. It is located in the hills of Asti and is known for the tremendous wines made from Moscato as well as stunning Barbera, the only Barbera given the highest designation, DOCG, meaning its quality is guaranteed.

Moscato d'Asti is one of the most versatile wines produced on Earth, which explains its huge popularity. In less than 80 years it has increased in production by 400% in order to keep up with demand. The reason for its success is that it can basically be consumed anytime, under any circumstances. Its alcohol level is only 5%, which is 60% less than most table wines. Its slight sweetness is offset by its imposing acid so the sweetness is only in the mid-palate because once swallowed, it comes off as totally dry. The slight effervescence, referred to as petulant, brings it all together.

It is interesting to note that in the land where big, buxom red wines like Barolo, Barbaresco, and Barbera dominate, it's this pale yellow beauty that receives all the praise. The fresh peach and apricot along with the lovely musk scent and apple is better on the palate than any words can describe. Whether with dessert, like fruit or butter cookies, or with spicy Asian dishes or all by itself, it is just delicious.
