So, we're tasting this wine and being totally knocked out by it. The name means "year" in Polish, unless you count the streaming gizmo. Then we notice the words "Estate Grown" and that means something. Who is the estate, we ask? The answer was a surprise, and yet not much of a surprise. It came from Scheid Vineyards, one of the finest grape properties in California.

It is interesting to note that two of the most important occurrences in the history of Monterey County's grape-growing happened in 1972. Yet, the differences between them were substantial. That was the year Al Scheid bought the property that would become Scheid Vineyards. It was also the year that Bill Jekel released his first Riesling from the Jekel Vineyards.

Al was a Harvard Business School grad and looked at his purchase as an investment. He planted high yield grapes and sold them to wineries around the state. Bill concentrated on one varietal, Riesling, and made one of the best in California. They could not have been more different yet look what happened.

Scheid realized that he had a fabulous piece of property. 20 years later, he decided to start planting noble varietals including Riesling, which Jekel had already made his name with.

Which leads us to this amazing selection. The Riesling is a classic rendition featuring a plethora of flavors and nuances including, but not limited to, apricot, peach nectar and pear blossom. It can complement any dish from Peking Duck to Salmon Almandine to Polish sausages.
