We don't usually get excited about a wine before we taste it, but we have to admit this one really interested us. You see, when you talk about the great dessert wines of the world, which are not fortified like Sherry, Port or Madeira, the first ones that come to mind are Sauternes from France and late harvest Riesling from Germany.

However, there's a third wine that belongs in the same category and that is Chenin Blanc from the Loire's incredible appellation, Coteaux du Layon. And that is what Jorge Falasco was emulating in his Mendoza version, Chacabuco. It is named after the town near Buenos Aries where his grandfather was raised.

Jorge is a 3rd generation winemaker in his family's winery located in the San Martin district of Mendoza. With few exceptions, almost all of the grapes grown here originally came from France. Obviously, one of those grapes was Chenin Blanc. We don't see much Chenin from Mendoza for one simple reason, the Argentines drink them up. So, when a beauty like this escapes, we grab it.

At just 7.5% alcohol, this lovely selection contains only the natural sugar of the grape. Nothing else is added. What sets it apart from many dessert wines is its perfect acidity, leaving the palate clean and refreshed. This, plus the lovely white peach and pineapple flavors, allow you to serve it with fish or chicken, with dessert or as dessert. It will shine with all courses in all corners.
