Malgra is a co-op of growers in the center of the Monferrato appellation in North Italy's famous area of Piedmont. It is universally known for two of the most famous and sought-after wines in the world, Barolo and Barbaresco. But in the sub-region of Asti, it is Moscato and its red brother, Brachetto, which dominate.

To say that Brachetto is one of the most exciting grapes in the world would be an understatement. We have never encountered one person who wasn't totally seduced by this grape, especially when produced in D'Acqui, where only the finest Brachetto are crafted.

Its popularity is surprising considering that it wasn't even made until 1877, which is a very short time in grape years. But, its early beginnings had nothing to do with its intense popularity. It is quite easy to see why. At first it took a backseat to the growing popularity of Moscato. However, it didn't take long to shine on its own as one of the most delicious dessert wines around. First and foremost, Brachetto's flavor of red grape, cranberry, and rose petals is unmistakable. Its low alcohol makes it a pleasure any time of day or night. The slight effervescence is beguiling as it allows the wine to dance on the tongue. Its overall light sweetness makes it a match for anything from fresh fruit to ice cream and cookies. And finally, there is that unmistakable finish which cleanses the palate like no other. It exits fresh and clean, begging for another sip. What's not to like?
