There are some wines that just make us smile even before we taste them. Vinho Verde is one of them. What is interesting about Vinho Verde is that, while we've loved them for decades, we see them slowly improving, which no one is going to argue with.

Some 50 years ago, all Vinho Verde was made by just a few co-ops. Co-ops are a group of grapegrowers with many years of family history in making wine. While there are slight differences in the wines amongst the co-ops, they are basically all the same wines you can get from anywhere.

Our selection comes from the co-op, Vicente Faria Wines. The Faria family has been making wine in Vinho Verde for over 200 years. Beginning just a decade ago, growers like Vicente Faria decided to make their own, estate Vinho Verde and take control of the finished wine. After all, Vicente is a 7th generation winemaker, so he has a long family history to his advantage. He also studied oenology in Bordeaux and Portugal to give him a broader slate on which to draw ideas and concepts.

The result is a Vinho Verde that is exciting and better than any we've tasted in the last 10 years. It is a blend of 90% Loureiro (one of the major grapes in the region) and 10% Arinto. Up to five grapes can be used, but he only used the best two, resulting in a wine that exhibits flavors of a m?lange of melon and pear mixed with citrus and apple to have with anything from a crab enchilada to a coconut cookie.
