Moscato, 2021. Terra D'oro

Terra d'Oro (Land of Gold) was founded by Cary Gott in 1973 as Montevina. It was the first winery in Amador after Prohibition and became one of our favorite wineries instantly. We featured Cary's Zinfandels often and treated them like liquid gold. His son, Joel, has gone on in his father's footsteps crafting some of the most revered wines in the country.

In 1988, the Trinchero Family purchased the winery and its 250 acres. What is significant here is that at the time, the Trinchero's owned a winery named Sutter Home, which was famous for their Zinfandels, the grapes of which they purchased from Cary Gott. They became legendary for the first White Zinfandel, which Paul Sr. purchased the same year he founded Wine of the Month Club. Jeff Meyers was assistant to Gott in 1981, then winemaker and now General Manager. Jeff made astronomical strides and then, with Trinchero's backing, made some of the most iconic wines in the state. He's a great guy and has been a great friend ever since.

The Trinchero's are of Italian descent. Amador County was first planted to grapes by Italian pioneers in 1856. To highlight that combination, they founded Terra d'Oro to specialize only in the Italian varietal. Emily Haines is now the winemaker and has done a masterful job of upholding the wineries legacy. Our selection is a worthy tribute to the famous Moscato d'Asti of Piedmont. It's light, refreshing flavors and finish combined with the lower alcohol would be a perfect note with Asian or Mexican cuisine or all by itself.
