Founded in 2002, A to Z is the brainchild of two couples: Deb and Bill Hatcher, and Sam Tannahill and Cheryl Francis. Between them, they've worked at almost every major winery in Oregon, and their knowledge has served them well.
In 2006, they scored another couple of coups. They hired the talented Michael Davies as their winemaker, and they partnered with Gregg Popovich to purchase the legendary Rex Hill Vineyards and Winery. A to Z has become a serious force to be reckoned with in Oregon wine.
And for good reason. Their initial offering was a Pinot Noir that was named Food & Wine magazine's Best American Pinot Noir under $20. Not bad for a first vintage! Over the years, their portfolio has grown, and A to Z now offers an array of wines made from varietals that thrive in the Oregon climate. Among these is our selection, a wine that has all the brilliant aromatics and flavor you'd expect from world-class Riesling.
The fruit was sourced from the Rogue and Applegate Valley sub-AVAs of Southern Oregon, as well as the Northern Willamette Valley. Grapes were harvested from a combination of young and old vines and picked at multiple levels of ripeness, to produce a complex and dynamic wine with balanced acidity. The fruit was gently pressed and malolactic fermentation was suppressed to retain the wine's fresh quality.
First, you're enticed by the lime zest and tangerine aromas that smoothly transition to notes of gooseberry, apricot, jasmine, gardenia and mint in a sensory symphony. The palate is perfectly balanced, with a touch of sweetness that leaves you yearning for your next sip.
