In 1971, Ted Gerber purchased 15 acres of land in the rugged Siskiyou Mountains, a few miles from the California border. Armed with 30 years of climate data and a desire to grow grapes, Ted made a leap of faith that placed him among the pioneers of the Oregon wine industry.

At the time, there was practically no wine industry in the area. But Ted had heard that a young winemaker might get his break here; "You can get started with a strong back and little money," an early mentor had told him. And while it was a long and laborious road, Ted made good.

Foris Vineyards is now comprised of 255 acres, located in an alpine valley whose climate is absolutely perfect for Alsace varietals as well as for Pinot Noir. The winery has garnered many accolades for these wines over the years - for their quality as well as for their reasonable price.

Since 1976, Foris has been cultivating a specific Moscato varietal called Early Muscat, which was bred from the crossing of Muscat Hamburg and a grape known as Queen of the Vineyard. It makes sense that our selection comes from royalty; its power and presence are certainly of regal quality.

Oddly enough, it is the Piedmont (rather than the Alsace) style of winemaking that Foris favors here. The fermentation process was arrested midway to preserve the sweetness and bubbles in the bottle. Their goal was to produce a playful, exuberant wine, and they've succeeded fantastically.

In the glass, incredible aromatics of white peach, pear, orange blossom and honeysuckle tickle your nose with their gentle effervescence, leading you to a swirl of refreshing flavors. Perfect as an apertiff, it's also a great way to simply celebrate summer.
