Laurenz was founded by Laurenz Moser, the grandson of the man who literally put Gruner Veltliner on the wine map in the 1950s, Lenz Moser. Not surprisingly, the winery not only focuses on Gruner, but doesn't produce any other wine. Gruner has only been on the wine horizon for some 50 or so years, but its impact has been significant. While an international favorite, it is barely grown in any other country. Obviously, Gruner's 42,000 acres in Austria makes it the preeminent leader as it accounts for fully one-third of all the vineyards in Austria.

Whether its beguiling plethora of engaging scents and tastes or its lovely, greenish hues, it is becoming more of a world-wide favorite with great frequency. It is so popular in Austria that its inhabitants consume more of this wine than any other country in the world.

Our selection is grown in the Kamptal region of Lower Austria, considered one of the finest appellations for this grape. The area is ideal for its long days peppered by slight heat waves during the day and cool nights. Laurenz is so meticulous about his wine, harvest takes place over an entire month. This assures that only the ripest grapes are used.

Aromas of peach and apple are redolent at the first scent. This promise is delivered on the palate with added freshness and notes of guava and quince. The entire experience is wrapped in a cloak of acidity, which beckons a shrimp pasta with flex of serrano chilis or baked halibut with dill and onion.
