The Jasci winery was founded in the early 60's by Pasquale Jasci and his wife, Maria. It is located 250 meters above sea level, on hills in Abruzzo, in a seaside resort town called Vasto. By 1980, their son Giuseppe made the choice to convert their vineyard to organic, and they became one of the first ten wineries in Italy to be certified. This choice was made solely due to Giuseppe's wife's unsolvable health problems, and as they made the conversion, her health issues resolved themselves, so they have been organic ever since.

It is now run by the third generation, Donatello Jasci and his wife Piera. Theymake up the second largest single grower in all of Abruzzo, one of Central Italy's finest wine producing areas. It is known for two wines, Montepulciano and Trebbiano, grapes grown in other areas, but few as good as those from here. Abruzzo is also known as being one of the most mountainous regions in Italy. Very few agricultural products can grow here except vines. Most of the land is used for raising sheep and livestock. And, that's where this unique grape, Pecorino, gets its name.

Pecorino is the name of one of Italy's greatest cheeses made from sheep's milk. Translated, it means "little sheep" and consequentially was supposedly named Pecorino because it was a favorite treat among flocks of sheep. In spite of the difficulty in growing it, Pecorino has very solid presence in the nose and mouth. From the lychee and apricot in the nose to the exotic cinnamon and clove flavors, it shines at every turn, especially when matched with a seafood pasta or mushroom risotto.
