Jam Jar is the brainchild of Cape Classics and winemaker Clayton Christians. This wine represents the old and the new in the most significant of ways. The grape is Muscat, thought to be the first grape turned into wine over 8,000 years ago. Clayton is one of the first black African winemakers.

Clayton and Jam Jar were drawn to each other because of their respect for the environment and their desire to build a rainbow nation where everyone is respected. They made the first wine for the Inadaba Foundation to be used as a fund raiser. The foundation uses the sales to contribute to childhood development in South Africa, the first winery in the nation to do so.

What better grape to use for this endeavor than Muscat? It is considered the Adam and Eve of grapes and nearly every other grape in the world descended from it. Its major charm is that it is difficult not to like. The spicy, musk oil scents and touch of peach and guava will put a smile on everyone's face.

South Africa makes more styles of Muscat than any other country in the world, many of which are highly prized. It would not be uncommon to find a $50 half bottle of aged Muscat that is almost brown, yet delivers a cornucopia of flavors. Ours is at the other end of the spectrum. This light, charming selection delivers on all fronts. It is sweet enough for dessert with biscotti, yet dry enough for spicy Asian or Mexican food.
