Ramoro comes to us from the Lunaria co-op in the town of Chieti, a city in one of Italy's most diverse wine appellations, Abruzzo. The region is in Central Italy, 125 miles northeast of Rome. It is the most mountainous area in the country and is now the 5th largest area there, in terms of volume.

It would appear that the people are as unyielding as the terrain. For centuries, Abruzzo was thought of as a bulk wine producer with no particular quality factor to distinguish them. After WWII, they banded together to form co-ops and take advantage of the strength in numbers.

As they succeeded in improving the wine, they also succeeded in improving their image. Co-ops are the model of democracy. The members own and run it. So, if they vote to increase quality, everybody has to go along or risk being left out.

Back then, there was not one area which carried the distinction of the DOC, a sign of very high quality. Today, almost a third of the entire appellation is under the DOC umbrella and justifiably so. The wines are spectacular.

Our selection is drinking proof. On top of all the strides they've made, they are also completely organic and biodynamic, as well as sustainable. This effort results in a spectacular Pinot Grigio, featuring lively peach and floral notes, apple and a touch of minerality. A shrimp and avocado sandwich along with a homemade cream of mushroom soup would shine when served with this wine.
