The name means "Land of the Ladies" and is run, not surprisingly, by a very special lady. Lee van Wilgen is a Netherlands-born advertising magnate who ditched the world of advertising in 2002 and bought an 18th Century farmhouse in the Languedoc. There she met with a new kind of crazy, but it seemed so much less so.

As the single mother of three girls, Lee had much more to overcome than most. Her principle issues were being a single mother in France with a winery to run. To her credit she faced all the obstacles and surpassed them one by one.

Her organically grown vineyard is now a benchmark in the Languedoc. The vines are 50-70 years old and one particular parcel is over 100. That is what accounts for the incredible depth of flavor in her wines.

That success is quite evident here. Our blend is a classic trio of 45% Grenache, 35% Carignan and 20% Syrah. Lee's wine is more pronounced due to the age of the vines, the use of natural yeasts and sheer determination. She also leads the charge of picking and fermenting with an energy and style seldom seen in men.

The end result is just the beginning. The imposing flavors and textures of her wines are evident with the first sip. The lavish length with sprinkles of earth, raspberry, blueberry, and spice are pure magic. All this energy is coalesced in a fine finish worthy of grilled lamb chops with garlic and mint or duck braised in red wine and herbs.
