Bernard Landron is a third-generation winemaker working with his brother, Jo, at the family estate founded in the Western Loire in 2002. He earned his oenology degree in 2008 and began converting to organics in 2010.
The Loire is one of the most fascinating wine areas in the world. Many go for the cruises up and down the Loire River showing the incredible castles that line its banks. From west to east, the Loire is 200 miles long. But, because the Loire undulates from north to south, the river is 600 miles long.
The depth and breadth of the diversity here is very unique. You will find outstanding sparkling wines in Vouvray along with amazing Chenin Blancs. You'll find two of the greatest expressions of Sauvignon Blanc in Sancerre and Pouilly Fume. Then there's the incomparable Cabernet Franc wines made in Chinon and finally the outstanding dessert wines from Layon that rival any dessert wine on Earth. Chartier is located in the Western Loire near Muscadet, which it also farms. This is where the Loire River empties into the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the few rivers which flow into the ocean instead of the other way around.
The grape here is Folle Blanche, first mentioned in French wine annals in 1696. At its best it produces and lovely, aromatic wine with hints of peaches and jasmine along with green and red apple. Its penetrating personality would suit pasta lathered with basil pesto or tuna poke.
