Benoit Chazallon took over his parent's estate, Chateau de la Selve, in 2002 after finishing his winemaking degree in Beaune. The original La Selve property housed a chateau and vineyards for more than three centuries and was considered the finest property in the region. The region is called Ardeche and it is one of the greatest secrets in the world of wine.

Ardeche is south of the Rhone Valley and is often considered part of it, even though it is its own appellation. It does share pretty much the same grapes except for one major difference, it also makes spectacular Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that could be confused with Burgundy until you see the prices.

The soil and climate are similar to Burgundy and the Rhone, but the climate is much more congenial and thus produces much more consistent wines. In other words, you almost can't go wrong with a wine that comes from Ardeche. How many other areas can say that? Benoit's 100-acre estate is completely organic and biodynamic. As a result, he is able to get ripe grapes with less time on the vine, which contributes to lower alcohols and the lilting flavors we prefer.

Our selection is the classic blend for a Rhone rose. Its makeup is 40% Cinsault, 30% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 5% Viognier, which could come right out of the Rhone playbook. Here it all plays beautifully with notes of white peach, cherry blossom, and a touch of pink bubblegum, all waiting for seared ahi or chicken almandine.
