The estate was founded by the Biotteau Family in 1938 and is now run by its Fourth Generation. It is located in the Loire's Anjou region, one of our favorites, yet also most misunderstood wine regions in the world. It is never spoken of in the dulcet tones reserved for Burgundy, Bordeaux, and the Rhone. But its diversity outshines all of them put together.
Here you have dry wines, sweet wines, red wines, white wines, sparkling wines, and dessert wines, all of which are luscious. The reds are the least known, which is a shame as you'll find out when you taste this one. It is primarily Cabernet Franc, an important component in Bordeaux, but the king of the hill in the Loire.
Cabernet Franc was often mistaken for its more famous cousin, Cabernet Sauvignon, until research showed a connection but not an exact match. The flavor profile on the grape is very different, but no less interesting. Our selection features 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Anjou region. This appellation is known for outstanding roses made from the Franc, and the reds are beginning to make a name as well.
The average age of their sustainable, organic vineyard is 25-30 years, signaling forthcoming intensity in this selection. The telltale signature of the grape is cranberry with flecks of currant, cherry, and blueberry all wrapped around a tender robe of silky yet exciting tannins. The entire experience inspires country French classics like grilled steak with fries, chicken cordon bleu or rabbit fricassee.
