An interesting phenomenon began to surface in the 1970s. Let's call it the age of the "superstar" winemaker. These were craftsmen who made one hit after another, sometimes for one winery, sometimes for several and sometimes in another country. Then came the "superstar" importers, who sought out small producers in pockets of other countries making great wine.

Well, every country except Spain. That's what inspired Jorge Ordonez, a native of Malaga who saw almost no representation of unique properties from his country, so he set out to change that. He arrived here in 1987, and for more than ten years, he struggled to get Spanish wines on America's table. He succeeded beyond even his wildest dreams.

Today Ordonez is considered the most important Spanish wine importer in the world. Any wine with his seal on it is a guarantee that it will be spectacular. Our Botani Moscatel is a testament to that. It was easy for Botani to become completely organic. First of all, they literally have no soil in their vineyard. It is composed of rock and shale with barely enough dirt to get wet. Weeds don't have a chance. Secondly, it's high in elevation, so pests can't get there. Problem solved.

Moscatel is a derivative of the Muscat grape, the oldest grape known to man. It has been propagated in Malaga for over 3,000 years. At its finest, it exhibits tremendous aromatics of fresh flowers, spice, and musk to enhance most anything from raw oysters to roast chicken or lamb sausage.
