Tenute del Garda sits on the stunningly beautiful western shore of Lake Garda. The history of making wine here goes back to the Roman period, over 2,000 years ago. The property is run, in partnership, by Andrea Lorenzi, a marketing executive with a deep respect and passion for the wines of the area; Luca Martini, an internationally known sommelier; and cellar manager, Francesco Stagnoli, a fifth generation grape grower.
This is a very unique property in that they only grow and vinify Riesling. It's what they're best known for and few, if any winemakers in Italy do it better. The soil and climate are similar to the great vineyards of Germany, so the wine shares some of the star quality of German Riesling. In their vineyards, in fact, they grow several types of Riesling grapes, of both German and Italian origin, and each variety adds its special character to the wines.
The team at Tenuta del Garda is also dedicated to utilizing the best of tradition and modernity in their approach to wine. The grapes for our selection were harvested from carefully tended 25 to 40 year-oldvines, so the quality of the fruit is superb. Add to this a conscientious winemaking process which has earned them vegan certification, and you have an unbeatable combination.
In the glass, you are met with an exquisite expression of Riesling. From the floral, apricot and apple scents through the penetrating presence in the mouth and on through to the citrus and lively finish, it satisfies at every level and beyond.
