Enrico Rivetto isn't just a farmer, a basketball fan, and a Renaissance man. He is a force of nature, a natural comedian, and one of the most impressive people we have ever known in the wine business.

Rivetto is the only biodynamic winery in the Langhe, the most important commune in Piedmont as it is home to two of Italy's, and the worlds, greatest wines: Barolo and Barbaresco. Enrico makes several outstanding Barolos from different vineyards, but he gets just as excited about his Nascetta. The grape was first mentioned in the 1800s, but then was forgotten because of other whites that were not as fussy a grape. It wasn't until 1994 when one lone producer made a few cases and that was enough to revive the interest.

Of course, Enrico had to jump in. After all, he not only has a biodynamic and sustainable winery, but also his own forest where he propagates all of the fauna and insects needed to keep his vines safe from predators. He also raises his own livestock for the rich fertilizer they provide. How can you not love a guy whose motto is "You are a fool to those who, hearing no music, sees you dancing."

We're always shocked when tasting a wine that was once forgotten, especially when it is as lovely as this. Its unique blend of wildflowers, orange zest, and roasted almonds is a feast for the senses. This exotic mix requires similar dishes like rainbow trout stuffed with crab or baked rock cod with soy and cilantro.
