Since 1950, Bodegas Arraez has been managed by three generations of the Arraez family. Toni Arraez Calabuig has been the Managing Director since 2007, and has led the way in revolutionizing operations at the winery, without abandoning tradition. His romantic view of wine is both innovative and deeply informed. Bodegas Arraez represents a standard for quality local varietals in the Levante region of Spain.

Located in in the natural setting of Terres dels Alforins, Bodegas Arraez has grown over time to incorporate three estates and new winemaking and bottling techniques. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of between 600 and 800 meters above the Mediterranean, between two valleys. The winery's 30 hectares of vineyards are planted predominantly with local varieties, mainly varieties like this Monastrell (Mouvedre), Tempranillo, Garnacha, Tintorera, Verdil and Moscatel. The Mouvedre for this wine comes from 40-year-old vines cultivated in a goblet shape, as well as young vines using a trellis system. Additionally, this region of Spain is one of the best climates in Europe for Mouvedre along with Bandol in Rhone.

This wine is a deep, intense purple with aromas of dark fruit, violets, and notes of black pepper and thyme. Bold flavors of dark fruit and game lead way to subtle flavors of black pepper and roasted notes. On the palate, it is enveloping, well-structured, with a long finish. Pair it with slow braised beef short ribs or pork shoulder; the richness of these meats and their preparation absorb the tannin in the wine and complement it nicely. If you save this wine for cooler months, it will pair nicely with stewed lentils, wild rice with shiitake mushrooms or hearty stews made with rich meats, such as a duck cassoulet.
