Our selection comes from the Anjou, one of the most exciting areas of the Loire Valley. Besides for being known to produce many of the finest rose wines in the world, it also produces unquestionably the greatest Chenin Blanc. There are very few areas in the world that are defined by one grape. One taste will tell you why.

The estate was founded by the Richou family and is now run by its fifth generation. In 2009 they converted to organic farming and in 2020 to total biodynamics. This unique farming method includes organics and sustainability but also takes a holistic approach by using the position of moon and stars to determine when to take certain steps like administering organic material and even harvesting the grapes.

It is hard to evaluate how successful this is. The only way to do so would be to grow the same grapes on the same property and make the same wine without using organic or biodynamic methods. This would be functionally impossible. The only things we have to go on are strictly empirical. The wine is fabulous. What else is there?

In California, Chenin Blanc was adaptable anywhere and made respectable, but not extraordinary wine. In the Loire, it has no equal. The first mention of it in France was in 846. It's been the star ever since. The complex floral and fruit components dance on the tongue dispensing peach, apricot, grapefruit, and even pineapple in even doses and waiting for a crab cocktail or shrimp diablo.
