No one in the Averoldi family remembers which ancestor started producing wine. All they know is that it outdates as many ancestors as they can remember.
Francesco Averoldi now guides the 35 acres of organically farmed vineyards with the same firm hand as his ancestors. Speaking of hands, all of the work in the vineyard is done as such. No mechanics are used and minimum mechanics are used in the winery.
The complete name is Azienda Agricola Averoldi, which translates to an agricultural property. In their view, they are more than a winery. They are a place where agriculture flourishes and respect for the land is paramount. That view is evident in everything they produce.
Averoldi is in Northern Italy between Milan and Trentino. German heritage is very strong here. Many of the proprietors are not only German, but propagate German varietals like our Riesling selection.
Our selection is 90% and 10% Manzoni, one of the most aromatic grapes on earth. Unlike its German counterpart, this Riesling is dry, but that's where the Manzoni comes in. It tempers the high acidity of the Riesling with its magnanimous floral and tropical notes.
The finale is power and glory held together by care and tradition. Lovely, shy apricot emanate from the glass touching off a wave of tropical flavors that seem to last until the next sip.
