Sometimes even tragedy can have an upside. Take the case of Frederic Porro, a motocross rider who had an accident that left him in a wheelchair, unable to compete any longer. His adoring sister, Stephanie, convinced him to assist with the wine list for her restaurant, Mas Nicot, in the south of France. That is all it took.

Frederic first became enchanted with wine, which blossomed into inspiration and grew into a passion. That passion for wine led him and Stephanie into growing grapes and making their own wine from their beloved home vineyards in the Languedoc. They both studied winemaking in Montpellier, before establishing Nicot in 2003, named after the imposing trees that dot the countryside.

They started farming organically and moved on to biodynamics in 2010. Their 55 acres are situated on calcareous soils, which are the best type for grapes. These soils are usually found in areas with little rainfall. The beauty of them is that they retain what little water is offered and store it for use by the vines until needed. Think of it as Mother Nature, the wine lover.

Our selection is comprised of two of our favorite grapes, Grenache Blanc and Marsanne. These grapes are manually harvested, fermented with their own indigenous yeasts, unfined and unfiltered with no added sulfites. If that isn't minimum intervention, then nothing is. The white peach and guava are the star of the aroma show, matched only by their inclusion on the palate. The swirls of apricot and cinnamon finish the experience and leave you breathless.
