Le Mieux was founded in 2009 by Wayne Le Mieux. He was fortunate enough to come in contact with Roberta Weideman of Bella Collina (beautiful hill) Vineyards, where the grapes for our selection were sourced. Her family has been in the U.S. since before the American Revolution and has farmed in five states here.
The Bella Collina vineyard was planted in 2000 and just began hitting its stride when Le Mieux began to produce the quality they were destined to. This Tempranillo is a perfect example of what Bella Collina is capable of.
Paso Robles may be one phrase, but it's two places. The dividing line is the Pacific Coast Highway. The highway was put there because any further west and you run up against the mountains. The vineyards west of the highway, like Bella Collina, are not only closer to the ocean, but protected by those same mountains from the warmer East winds. This cooler temperature allows the grapes to mature slower on the vine and extract more flavor.
This is exactly what you want with one of the great grapes of the world, Tempranillo. It is the most honored grape in Spain, but merely a forethought here. That's a shame because the unique berry and earth flavors it sports are nothing short of spectacular.
