Finca Suarez was established in 1911 by Leopoldo Suarez and is currently run by the fourth-generation Suarez. It is located in the tiny Uco Valley of Argentina's famous Mendoza area.
Argentinian wines have basically taken over the market for superb, medium-priced reds. But what is just as exciting - and more surprising - is how incredible are this region's white wines. Finca Suarez was one of the first to plant Chardonnay here and, naturally, theirs is one of the best.
They follow a simple plan: plant the grapes where they do their best and pick them early so that the alcohols are down and the true flavor of the grape shows through. They use no oak treatment on their wines, and that is a good thing.
As with all great wineries, the work begins in the vineyard. They prune their vines judiciously so that they don't overproduce. This may cut down on quantity, but it increases quality, and that is what Suarez is all about.
Here is nothing but the pure essence of beautiful Chardonnay at its best. The wine literally bursts with green apple, melon and Asian pear, mixed with touches of cinnamon, clove and chamomile. They swirl on your tongue and finish with hints of lime zest and lemon.
This is a wine you can enjoy on its own or with anything from shrimp cocktail to bouillabaisse, roast chicken or even veal Milanese. Its versatility is unmatched and will reward all who experience it.
