The famed district of Chianti in the Tuscan region of Italy has been a prolific wine region since the 1300s. Many recognize the famed straw bottle that once defined Chianti. There is even a Chianti Fiasco (straw bottle) in the famous spaghetti scene in Lady and the Tramp. The famous "fiasco" is still the recognized vessel for Chianti wine. However, most bottled as such are of lesser quality.

The laws surrounding the production of Chianti wine have changed over the years. And in an effort to increase the quality of the resulting wines, this includes district designation with quality control in the form of regulations through the Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC). The primary red grape is Sangiovese, and the primary white grape is Trebbiano. The term "Super Tuscan" became a household name for upper-tier Tuscan reds, When the DOC allowed the French varietals Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah to be blended (or bottled solo),

Sangiovese, on its own, creates a lighter-bodied red that exhibits spice and cigar box components. They are quaffing pizza wines to long-lived sophisticated bombs.

Tiziano produces a wide variety of Tuscan based wines, and much like the French term, "negociant" finds the best values to brand Tiziano. It is rare that when I taste a full line of wines that I like or approve the entire line, such was the case here. I thought the Trebbiano was bright and a great representation of the soil up to the Chianti Classico, which had depth and vibrant character.

Our version is easy on the palate, but don't let the lighter color fool you. Many times wines like this will look brighter in the glass until you taste. This wine deserves a pasta Bolognese or a sausage pizza. This wine could even handle a slight chill and holds for two years.
