We couldn't wait another month to feature this wine. It was just too good to hold on to it any longer. First, it is from acclaimed Paso Robles, which we have featured many selections to rave reviews by our members. Second, it is a blend of some of the best Bordeaux varietals: 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 16% Petite Verdot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petite Sirah.

In the early years, Paso Robles was known for producing great Zinfandels. Soon other varietals were grown, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc. Today, it boasts more than 60 varietals, affirming itself as a region for the production of premium, award-winning wines. This red blend attests to the high quality expected from here.

Most of the grapes were grown on the south bank of the Estrella River on a northward slope. In 2016, the vineyards enjoyed some rainfall in winter and early spring before temperatures peaked in July and cooled off for the rest of the growing season. This resulted in milder conditions than previous years; however, the majority of the grapes were harvested in October, allowing the grapes to absorb the warmth of Paso Robles' sunny mornings and afternoons.

This warm climate in Paso Robles is what gives the wine rich, expansive flavors of pomegranate, cranberry and lingonberry, making it a perfect foil for anything from a lamb burger with mint aioli to shepherd's pie.
