The Fonjoya winery is located in the Languedoc, southern France's most bountiful appellation, an hour's drive from Montpellier. The name comes from the joining of two words, "fon" for fountain and "joya" for joy. Originally Fonjoya was two different co-operatives that joined forces in order to make a greater impact in the complex and competitive wine world.

They were founded when the Languedoc was barely an afterthought in France. Today, there has been a complete about face. The Languedoc has quite a reputation now. This is because of "daring winemakers," like those of Fonjoya, who scoured the different terroirs of the Languedoc isolating, literally, hundreds of them and experimenting with different grapes matched to each terroir. The results have been nothing less than extraordinary.

Though many spectacular whites are being produced here, it is still primarily a red wine district. The Languedoc's proximity to the Rhone Valley also enhances its soil and thus, the grapes excel here. The 45% Carignan, 33% Syrah, and 22% Grenache in our selection could easily be found in a Cotes du Rhone, but at a higher price. It's that price-to-quality equation that makes their wines some of the greatest values in the world. The Languedoc also boasts many of the oldest vines in France, which is another reason they give you so much wine for the money.

The dense color signals the imposing wine to follow. Waves of dark, imposing fruit descends on the palate with spice tickling it along the way. Here is the foil for carnitas arbol or a platter of charcuterie.
