Sonoma based Tom Meadowcroft founded Camino d'Oro in 2015. Tom says he was born to be in the wine business, and judging from the wines he crafts, we'd have to agree. He certainly wasn't shy about naming his new venture. It translates into a "golden road."

Tom may be based in Sonoma, but he's not tied to it. He has been known to cross borders, not just geographic ones. Besides Sonoma, where most of this incredible Pinot Noir hails from, he is known to choose grapes from parts of Napa and the central coast. His Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard is in the lofty hills of Mount Veeder, one of Napa's most renowned areas.

He chooses the cooler vineyards of Sonoma so that the lighter, feminine side of Pinot Noir can shine. The grape has a thin skin and is prone to burst in high heat literally. The lower temperatures also slow the development of sugar and keep the acids at a higher level allowing the grapes to mature on the vine longer, picking up the delicate nuances and complex flavors that only Pinot Noir can bring.

As you peer into the glass, you will notice a translucence that seems to sparkle on its own. The light color fools you into thinking this is a light wine. The aroma and flavors of rose petals and cherry signal the characters to come, and though not heavy, their persistence is astonishing. Chilean sea bass with goat cheese summons.
