Bodegas y Vinedos de Aguirre S.A. was founded by Don Pedro Felix de Aguirre, and is now cared for and managed by his wife, Ana Maria and their 7 children. The vineyards and winery are located in Villa Alegre, 285 km. (180 miles) south of the capital, Santiago de Chile. Villa Alegre is in the Maule Valley, a transversal valley between the mountain range of the Andes and the Pacific Ocean.
The vineyards of Villa Allegra are planted in an area with a privileged microclimate, where temperatures are around 37? Fahrenheit, resulting in grapes of extraordinary quality. Wine has always been present in the history and spirit of Chile. The art of winemaking is part of the culture and heritage and has inspired many artists. The sun's exposure, clean waters from melting snows of the Andes, fertile soils of the Maule Valley, and the tenderness and care of a whole family dedicated to the production of exceptional wines, vividly reflect the Soul of Chile.
The Carmenere grapes in this blend were harvested by hand on the first of May, while the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were harvested a few days before. In order to extract color and aromas, the must underwent skin contact at low temperatures prior to the alcoholic fermentation. This wine was kept in oak barrels for eighteen months, 80% French oak and 20% American oak, before bottling. This red blend is a deep purple red. On the nose, there is an intense aroma of pepper and blackberries. On the palate, strong notes of hazelnut and coffee come through and a well-balanced structure, with condensed and mature tannins. These are all followed by a pleasant and smoky aftertaste. This wine will pair well with roast beef and potatoes or roasted mushrooms. It will also pair nicely with smoky grilled pork with grilled vegetables. For vegetarian fare, pair with a hearty vegetable pasta with fresh cheese, like ricotta.
