Once again, we are pleased to feature a wine from Christophe Pellier, the fifth generation of Pellier to make wine in the Languedoc region of France.
Like his father and grandfather, Christophe still hand sells his wine on Fridays at the local market. However, both his father and grandfather wanted him to choose a different career, as they could never make enough money to cover their costs.
For a time, Christophe did choose a different career. This enabled him to make enough money to invest in better equipment and upgrade his 75-acre vineyard so he could make exceptional wines. His first vintage was 2010, and he has never looked back. After all, his father was selling wine for $1 a bottle!
Christophe was one of the first to plant Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot here. Up until then, the grape landscape was pretty much the same as the Rhone: Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault. All great grapes, but his Cabernet- and Merlot-based wines stand out among the best.
Our selection is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. It has the density and presence of a fine Bordeaux, until you look at the price. In essence, Christophe is putting out Bordeaux quality at half of the Bordeaux price.
Here is a lovely, fruit-driven, earthy and exciting wine that delivers at every level and in every corner of the palate. Another winner from Pellier.
