Liberated is part of Jackson Family Wines, founded by Jess Jackson in the mid-1970s. You may know the wine as Kendall-Jackson, one of the most iconic brands in the U.S.
The winemaker for this venture is Kristy Melton, a former Texas rodeo queen who still looks the part. She veered off the trail at some point and got her Enology degree from UC Davis. She went from being sought after by cowboys to being sought after by wineries, as her early work making wine was very impressive.
Her resume reads like a who's who of top-tier wineries in California, with accolade piled atop accolade. She finally put her own wine operation together in 2015, consulting for wineries in California.
Kristy's love of Sauvignon Blanc emerged after a stint in New Zealand's Marlborough district, one of the most famous on earth for this grape. There, she learned how different styles of Sauvignon Blanc can exhibit flavors differently based on climate and soil. After determining the style she wanted, she then set out to find the right soil and climate to make her ideal Sauvignon Blanc happen.
