Trumpeter is produced by Rutini Wines, one of the oldest and most celebrated wineries in Argentina. Its origins date back to the late 19th century, when Italian immigrant Felipe Rutini planted one of the first vineyards in Mendoza. Rutini Wines is now comprised of five estates in Mendoza, with over 600 acres of grapes. Each has its own niche and personality.

Mendoza is considered one of the most perfect areas for growing grapes. The Andes Mountains provide more than enough water from the year-round snow pack. The warm days and cool nights encourage the vines to give superb fruit, enhance the color of the reds and the aroma and flavor of the whites, and - most importantly - keep the grape's natural acids alive.

The dry, sunny conditions make for naturally healthy grapes and are ideal for Rutini's organic operations. Mendoza is perhaps one of the most conducive areas in the world to grow organically, with vineyard pests and dampness nearly nonexistent at this elevation.

The grapes were harvested from their 20-year-old vineyards over 3,000 feet above sea level. The area is mostly sandy. Yield is very low, allowing each cluster of grapes to receive the maximum amount of nutrients from the soil. Grapes are hand-harvested and then 30% are barrel fermented, which takes place for seven months in 50% new French oak barrels.

The result is a superb Chardonnay offering layers of tropical essences, vanilla spice and citrus, followed by green apple, and finishing with that telltale lemon zest edge. As good as it gets.
