Prova Regia is crafted by Quinta da Romeira, located in the Bucelas region around Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Romeira has been a showplace destination for European dignitaries since 1703. Kings and princes have stayed at the palatial mansion over the centuries.

The estate encompasses 300 acres of vineyards, most of which are dedicated to the Arinto grape, one of the most unique varietals in the world. The area of Bucelas is also unique in that it is one of the few in the world where only white wine can be made. When you've had the success they've had in doing the same thing for centuries, there's no sense in arguing with them. Suffice to say that the outcome has been fabulous, and they intend on keeping it that way.

Arinto is a rare grape indeed. As far as we know, it is only grown in Portugal and most of that in Bucelas. Once tasted, it's hard to understand why. This is a very fascinating grape, unlike any other we've encountered.

The floral nature of the nose arises first, mixed with unique, Middle Eastern spices like green cardamom and ginger. Then comes the exotic fruit component mixture of guava, seedless grapes, quince and green mango. The flavors defy comparison.

This is one of those wines you want to serve your wine geek friends blind and ask them to guess what it is. We're betting no one will guess, but once tasted, no one will forget.
