The story of Limited Lot spans a century and a half and 7,000 miles. It begins in 1883 on the island of Ischia off the coast of Naples where Salvatore Scotto began crafting wine with his son, Dominic. Dominic took his wife and sons to live in Brooklyn at the turn of the 20th Century and launched their first wine business, selling 5-gallon carboys of homemade wine to the neighborhood.
At the time, they did what almost every Italian family in New York did. They purchased carloads of grapes from California and made wine in their basement, just like they did in Italy. Sal's oldest son, Anthony, decided it would be easier if he were closer to the source, so in 1963 he purchased the family's first vineyard in Livermore and began making wine with his sons, Anthony II and Dominic. Today the 5th generation Scotto's, Paul and Natalie, source exceptional vineyards to partner with and make great wine in limited lots, ergo the name. It doesn't happen often, but in this case, they came across a spectacular limited lot Cabernet Sauvignon from the North Coast. With careful handling and the use of oak barrels, 35% American and 65% French, they crafted this incredible selection.
At 13% alcohol, it comes in at a lower level than most, allowing the delicate nuances of fruit and spice to shine thorough. Here is classic Napa Cabernet featuring layers of blackberry and cherry with swatches of cocoa and vanilla. These all lead to a sublime finish begging for an outside skirt steak stuffed with peppers and onions.
