The Veneto region of northern Italy is famous for the production of Valpolicella, Amarone, Soave and Bardolino, Prosecco and of course Pinot Grigio. Pinot Grigio made its way from France, where it is called Pinot Gris, into northern Italy via Switzerland in the 14th century. Since its arrival in the Veneto, Pinot Grigio has become the most popular white wine in Italy and the most popular imported white wine in the United States. Poggio Delle Robinie, is also known for making Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Superiore.

The vineyards that produce this Pinot Grigio sits upon a loose mixture of chalk, marlstone, and clay soil. The grapes undergo a slight cleaning by static settling, and carefully selected yeasts begin the fermentation process at a controlled temperature of 16-18? C. It is then finished and held in stainless steel tanks.

Pinot Grigio thrives in the Veneto region, and the result is an intensely high acid, refreshing wine. It is pleasing, with aromas of tropical fruit and notes of pear and floral hints of honeysuckle on the palate. The finish is harmonious and well balanced. This is a great wine to serve chilled with starters, such as ceviche, moules-frites, or a crisp kale and green apple salad. It would also pair well with grilled flaky white fish, roasted chicken and fennel, or pork sausages cooked with root vegetables and allspice.
