Our selection comes from the owners of one of the oldest and most revered vineyards in Paso Robles, Rancho Tierra Rejada, Spanish for "land of worked earth." It was founded by a Los Angeles real estate developer, Herman Schwartz, in the late 60s and became the go-to vineyard for many wineries in California even those in Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino.

There was no winery on the property so Herman didn't have to worry that the people who bought grapes from him would find him a competitor as well. The property and vineyards were recently purchased by the Miller Family in Santa Maria, owners of the Bien Nacido Vineyard, considered one of the finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards in California.

The Millers run wine production facilities in Santa Maria and Paso Robles with enormous facilities and expertise to make wine as good as it can be made. Buying Rancho Tejada was a natural extension of their business.

Paso Robles has proven to be too warm for Chardonnay, so they went down the coast to the coolest vineyards in Monterey and Santa Maria for this wine. All the chosen vineyards are sustainable and organic with the ages of the vines being between 15 and 40 years old.

This is Chardonnay the way it should be made. The oak component is a supporting player. The fruit components range from pineapple to green apple and retains the gripping acidity for a clean, tart finish. A shrimp pasta in pesto would be sublime.
