Rancho Tierra Rejada was the premier vineyard in Paso Robles and sold grapes to wineries up and down the state. Unfortunately, it fell in stature due to a number of ownerships that couldn't keep up with the pressure.
Gerald Forsythe purchased this pristine 500-acre vineyard with the intention of building a future for his daughters to pursue. He had some problems we all wish he had. His other business ventures were too successful so all his resources had to be put into them. The vineyard and winery had to wait.
And wait they did. Though they hired a superstar winemaker in Chris Cameron, they bottled the wines and let them sit in their cellars until perfectly ready to drink. And then they came to us because of our history and reputation and presented us with this treasure trove of amazingly aged wine, which hadn't been moved from the underground cellar since bottling.
Obviously, the wines were in perfect condition, as they are outstanding today. Grapes are fussy to cultivate, and the wines they make can be just as fussy. Wine doesn't like to be moved around, be exposed to light or temperature fluctuation. So, when you leave them alone in a cellar for several years, you are rewarded.
The reward here is a perfectly aged wine from a pristine vineyard showing everything you could want. The luscious, mature fruit, the soft, enveloping tannins and the sweet finish - all make the wait worthwhile.
