You've all heard of a win-win situation. But, we've decided to expand our winnings and calculate the theorem of win-win-win. This selection is the perfect explanation of our calculation.
We win when we find exceptional wines that are unique, mostly unheard of and great values. Our members win because they are the beneficiaries of our finding the wine, and the producers win because they're able to introduce their wine to a broad spectrum of consumers who would have never heard of their wine through normal channels. Any questions?
Exclusively from Portugal, Encruzado is considered the country's finest white wine grape. It has the luxury of being grown in the warm Dao region, but does not suffer the loss of acidity that many grapes would in this weather. Encruzado is the perfect grape for this climate: it was born here and it thrives here. Interesting how Mother Nature works, isn't it?
Encruzado has been thought of as kin to Chardonnay, because of their similar flavor profiles and the fact that it can be aged in oak but not pick up too much in the process. Instead, the grape's own natural flavors are expanded. Our selection was aged in 130-gallon oak casks, not 60-gallon barrels, so the oak treatment is gradual and mild.
The resulting wine is more tropical and slightly citrus-based, but it also exhibits a spice component all its own, which separates it greatly from the wines of other white grapes. All this presents an amalgam of flavors sure to excite and delight all of us winners.
