Zoom Juice is the new millennial saying for any alcohol consumed during a Zoom meeting. It figures somebody had to come up with that moniker and it's no surprise that it was our colleagues at Summerland Wine Company in Buellton, the largest private label facility in the Central Coast.
The winemaker is Anna Clifford, a Southern California girl who was inspired to make a career in wine after seeing the beautiful, sprawling vineyard landscape in the romantic comedy, "French Kiss." She went on to earn her Enology Degree from UC Davis and then visited the wine regions of France, Italy, Germany and others before coming back to the states. Anna likes to think she brings the "woman's touch" to her wines and thinks of them more as offspring than just a bottle of wine. Founded in 2008 as a custom crush facility, they quickly became involved in the purchase of juice and grapes to offer on their own. That involvement quickly spread to purchasing land and planting grapes for themselves and their resident wineries.
Our selection is a classic, cool climate Chardonnay that we desire from the Central Coast. Here the naturally temperate weather is tempered by a rather large body of water called the Pacific Ocean. The granite and limestone soils just serve to make the terroir that much more perfect. Classic green apple and cinnamon aromas dovetail into similar nuances in the mouth and lead to a lovely, engaging finish. All the flavors coalesce into an invitation for a crab salad or seared salmon with a classic hollandaise sauce.
