Once again, we feature a unique wine from Eastern Europe as we excitedly explore this territory. This beauty comes from Slovakia, where grapes have been harvested for over 1,500 years.
Vino Nichta is a family-owned operation founded in 1997 with a mission to bring the ancient varietals of the area to the world instead of doing more also-ran wines like so many others. We applaud these efforts and are committed to telling their story and showcasing their wines.
Feteasca Regala is the most widely planted white grape in Slovakia. There are almost 40,000 acres grown here. It seems to have taken to the volcanic soils of the land and the temperate climate of the location.
The wine's journey to us is an interesting one. It was brought here by Linka Davis. She and her husband, Christopher, own Barbare?o Restaurant in Santa Barbara, where she is also wine director. Linka was born in Slovakia and wanted to carry her passion for their local grapes to her new home in California.

The nose comes off as boisterous, with musky scents and a touch of passion fruit. Then the citrus takes over and carries all the flavors through the palate from one taste to another, culminating in a grand and glorious finish.
