Our Angelo selection is crafted by Mondodelvino, a very large and impressive wine operation with facilities all over Italy. They sell wine to no less than50 different countries around the world. In many ways they are like a co-op, but in many ways, they are not.
They partner with growers, from small estates to very large ones, to craft wines of distinction for their clientele. Due to their strong market presence, they can demand and always receive the highest quality from each producer, because without Mondodelvino those producers couldn't sell their wine. It's a win-win situation.
In this case, it is a Sicilian variety called Grillo. We don't often go off on a limb like this, but we can guarantee that you will love this wine. It is one of the most flavorful and distinctive wines we have ever tasted and it is guaranteed to elicit a smile from everyone who experiences it.
Of course, when you consider its parentage, it's easy to understand its popularity. As grapes go, it is a relative newcomer, having been first noticed in 1897. DNA testing shows it to be an offspring of Cattaratto, a lovely aromatic grape from the same area, and Muscat of Alexandria, a powerfully expressive offering with flavor to spare.
There's no sparing here. From the large and lovely tropical essences in the nose to the luscious, almost oily texture on the palate, expressing peach and guava that you can't miss when paired with seared sea scallops in a saffron butter sauce or mango salsa.
