The Rosso Conero D.O.C. (denominazione di origine controllata) is a wine region centered around Monte Conero, an Apennine mountain located on the coast, just south of the Le Marche capital city of Ancona. Montepulciano is king, here, as it thrives in the mineral-heavy soils of clay and chalky limestone. In addition to red meat dishes, locals pair Rosso Conero wine with pork and pecorino cheese.
