The vineyard was planted in 1997 on a marly, medium-textured, moderately calcareous soil at a vine density of 2800 plants per acre (7000 plants per hectare). The site is in the Chianti hills at an altitude of approximately 650 feet (200 meters) above sea level; the Sangiovese and Merlot enjoy a west-southwestern exposure, while the Pinot Noir faces east and northeastwards.
