Adi Badenhorst has the unique ability to fashion spectacular wines at all levels of the price spectrum, and he could see tremendous potential in the under $10 category. There is so much high quality fruit in the Swartland that ends up unrecognizable in Bag-in-Box blends. I felt that by adding a little more care to the vinification of these grapes, while maintaining cost efficiency in production, we could produce wines that would be sure to turn a few heads for a very reasonable sum of money. And so, together with Broadbent Selections, The Curator project was born. Known for having impeccable taste & style, The Curator was assembled as a unique blend from the fantastic library of wine parcels at Adi's disposal. These parcels each possess distinct and complex character, which translates into the wine. Only 2 wines are made: The Curator Red and The Curator White.

The Swartland region is located on a mountain range, which is a granite outcrop. Three distinctive types of granitic soil are found in the area, specifically Paardeberg, Lammershoek and Lemoenfontein granites. The soils are extremely old and considered by many to be 'low potential'. Yields are generally quite low. No irrigation is used. Rainfall is around 480mm/year, falling mainly in the winter months of May - August/September. Winters tend to be cold and wet and leaf fall is quite sudden with the onset of each Winter. Otherwise, the weather is quite similar to that of a Mediterranean climate.
