The move toward organic wine is real and topical. And just like any other wine, there are great examples and there are undrinkable versions.

Anne-Sophie Dubois is part of a young generation of vignerons redefining the identity of Beaujolais. Born and raised in Champagne, she caught the wine bug early and spent her formative years learning the ropes in Burgundy. She draws from her experience in Volnay to elegant wines; full of depth and aromatic complexity, and without the over-extraction of fruit.

Anne-Sophie fell in love with Gamay and decided that Fleurie was where she wanted to call home. Her domaine is composed of eight hectares in the heart of Fleurie that are now organically farmed. She refrains from using new oak, and prefers to utilize cement vats and larger neutral oak casks for fermentation and aging. The resulting wines are renditions of Gamay abound with fruit, finesse and exquisite balance. Most of her plots are already of considerable age, her oldest are 60+ years old.

I found this to be a great opportunity to learn not only about Fleurie wines...but the benchmark character of organic wines.

Salut.
