The 2019 vintage began with the Anderson Valley's signature heavy spring rains, followed by a long, warm summer that made for an idyllic growing season. Bloom and fruit set progressed under ideal conditions, leading to a bountiful and balanced crop, which was able to fully develop and ripen. A few heat events later in the season were balanced by crisp maritime winds and foggy mornings that cooled the fruit and helped to preserve freshness, aromatic intensity, and the elegant perfume we often find in the Anderson Valley. This vintage marks the inaugural inclusion of our Bearman Bend Vineyard in the blend. Our newest estate site in Philo, it contributes a more forward, dark berry profile and ripens slightly earlier than our Monument Tree Vineyard due to its more exposed southwestern aspect. Overall, 2019 was a classic, long Anderson Valley season, which led to an extended harvest window and produced wines with excellent fruit concentration, ripe tannins, depth and grace.
