The Montinore Estate is at the northern end of Oregon's Willamette Valley, the coolest place in Oregon in more than one way. Grapes are grown here get the best of all worlds. The air is pristine, there is ample water, the rolling hills are just what they like, and the cool air and bright sun ripen them slowly.
The estate is run by Rudy Marchesi, a 40 years veteran of organic and biodynamic farming. In other words, he was doing this way before it was popular. As a result, Montinore is the best example of sustainable and biodynamic farming here.
The estate was founded in 1982, making the vines more than 30 years old and thus just hitting their prime. The weather pretty much dictates what you can grow here, which are mostly whites and reds with shorter growing seasons. As a result, the wines have a crisp, zippier acidity that makes them perfect with food. Vivace is a musical term that means to play in a lively, spirited manner; in other words, an ideal name for our selection.
The grapes for this gem tell the story. Gewurztraminer gives the lively spice and musk component, while Muller-Thurgau adds floral and earth notes. Pinot Gris harmonizes with peach and apple notes. And, finally, Riesling offers the grand finale with touches of green apple and citrus.
Just add sparkle, and voila. You have an exciting wine that was made to either start or end the meal, whether that would be shrimp cocktail, spicy chicken wings or cheesecake with a raspberry sauce.
